Salaam Reader 👋 Looks different, right? That’s Amal Invest V2. The biggest update we’ve shipped in a while, and easily the one we’ve worked the longest on. There’s a lot packed into this release, so here’s a walkthrough of what changed. Who this update is for:Most of the changes in this release apply to Amal Invest (Alpaca) the standalone app. That’s because the Alpaca app actively tracks your trades, P&L, dividends, and full portfolio history, which is what V2 rebuilds on and improves. For Amal Invest x 212 (Trading 212) users, your experience stays the same, and that’s by design. The 212 app is a focused, streamlined wrapper that creates and monitors your pie, and it does its job well. No changes were needed. So if you’re on Trading 212, treat this as a peek into what the team has been building. If you’re on Alpaca, everything below applies to you directly. A more trustworthy portfolio:Before V2, Amal stitched your dashboard together on the fly, pulling from scheduled orders, closed orders, broker syncs, activity logs, dividends, and a lot of in-memory replay. Most of the time it worked. But when a background job retried or failed halfway through, your balances, P&L, or fund history could drift in subtle, hard-to-debug ways. V2 records each step of every trade: what you asked for, what we sent to the broker, what actually filled, and what your portfolio holds right now. Your dashboard is built from those confirmed records rather than replayed from older state. What that means for you:
An important note about refresh timing:This change comes with a small trade-off worth flagging up front. The old dashboard updated instantly after you placed a trade, but as mentioned above, it had a habit of creating subtle inaccuracies. The new dashboard is built on the broker’s confirmed data, which is far more reliable. However, it can take up to an hour to fully sync after a new investment is filled. So, if you check your dashboard within an hour of placing an investment, the trade may not appear immediately. That doesn’t mean any data is lost, it’s just the background sync process catching up. By the next refresh, everything will be reconciled against what the broker actually executed. The slight delay is part of the verification process that keeps the data accurate. A complete UI & UX refresh:What’s a V2 without a fresh look? Every page and component in the app was refined to create a smoother and more pleasant experience across both desktop and mobile. The goal throughout was to make the app cleaner, easier to navigate, and more polished overall. A faster, snappier app:V2 brings major performance improvements across the platform. Portfolio and fund pages that previously took a moment to settle now load almost instantly, whether you’re viewing your entire portfolio or exploring a specific fund. Selectable timeframes on charts (3M / 6M / 1Y / 2Y):You can now view your portfolio and fund history beyond the original 3-month window. Both the main portfolio chart and each individual fund chart now include selectable time ranges: 3M, 6M, 1Y, and 2Y. The default view remains 3M, but switching between previously viewed ranges is now instant. This works across both your overall portfolio and individual filtered funds. Export fund history to CSV:You can now download a CSV export of your fund’s history from the fund detail page. It includes your invested amount and portfolio value over time since the fund was created. Useful for tax records, personal tracking, zakat calculations, or pulling your data into a spreadsheet to slice however you like. Where we’re still improving:V2 has surfaced a small number of edge-case issues that weren’t previously visible in the old system. We’re actively working through these to ensure everything stays consistent. A few final notes:If you run into anything unexpected after this update, feel free to reach out directly. You can also add feature requests in the roadmap inside the app, the most-voted ideas are prioritized. We’ve also applied the latest security patches to the underlying framework Amal is built on, keeping the platform up to date with current industry standards. If you have a moment:For the past two years, our growth has come almost entirely from you, word of mouth, referrals, and quiet recommendations to family and friends. We don’t have a massive marketing budget pretending otherwise. With thanks To the members who shaped this release through their feedback, bug reports, and feature requests:
